Almost 4 stars. I liked the premise of this story - scheming and false as it may seem ;-) And have read others written over the same trope. If you enjoy this theme, you should pick up Waking up with the Duke by Lorraine Heath or A Lady awakened by Cecilia Grant. Both handle the same theme, and are wonderful stories.Captain Durant is a dyslexic impoverished scarred battle hero, who accepts the job of impregnating Lady Kelby in order to help his sick sister. He gets the money and then refuses to actually do the deed, but is coerced into it by the lady in question. Their romance takes off very very quickly and by day two he is apparently not only in love with the lady but also not ashamed to admit it to himself... Although I actually found this very endearing to our hero, it did however happened a little too fast for my liking...
There were a few things I did not enjoy about the novel, first of all when the story starts out. Our hero is in a BDSM club, which I have no objection to, except that it meant nothing to the story! I guess it was a way of showing us how different they were and also to ensure that their first encounter occurs with our hero stark naked... Although again, I am not sure why? It didn't make sense, and the poor man is kneed in the groin by the heroine... He spends the next couple of chapters ensuring the readers that he is not into BDSM, that he was only there because he was bored... it seemed silly and with no consequence to the plot, so in my mind it should not have been there.
The love scenes were lovely but a little too lovely actually in my mind. These are completely strangers, he is basically a man whore or stud to her, so a bit of awkwardness would have been preferable in my mind. Again, a thing the other two books mentioned above does very well...
The villain thing fell a little flat as well, but then again, I do enjoy a romance without too much outside mystery or crime plotting, so I really shouldn't complain.
All in all it was a nice little story, without too much character development, but a charming recommendable read.

Captain Durant Countess London List Book 2 edition by Maggie Robinson Tyson Bowers Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
There’s only a handful of plots like this one in romance land and the reason behind it is because it’s not easy to pull it off without someone getting hurt, emotionally or physically.
That said, I found that this story handled the plot very well and I found that I liked this story because the author didn’t just settle on the sensuality part of this tale, but worked hard in establishing good, solid three dimensional characters to go with it.
Both main characters had strength and emotional depth to them that had me vested in their story.
If you’re looking for a story with a predictable plot but complex and endearing hero, this one will entertain you, no doubt.

This story made love the all the people involved in the story. He treated her with repect and loved her in the end..
Great premise but the characters and story line needed a lot more development. It was a pleasant bit of fluff, perfect if you want a sweet story that won't keep you up all night. And honestly that is sometimes just what you want!
Maggie Robinson writes a different twist to the story of the peer who needs an heir, but can't beget one. This is a fast paced read with a heroine looking for a hero, and a hero who deserves love. Of course. it's not a Maggie Robinson book unless it contains lots of humorous comments and situations. Looking forward to reading the third in the series.
We've all read them before aging noble marries a young bride to beget an heir. When he can't the young wife goes off to find a donor to remedy the problem. The twist in this book is... that the fresh young wife is not the one who came up with the idea, her aging husband did. He even hand picks the "donor"... who is also not entirely thrilled with the idea.
I gave "Captain Duran's Countess" three stars, but not because I didn't enjoy it. I did. I gave it three stars because even after reading it, I'm not exactly sure what genre or heat level to classify it as. It starts of scortching hot but then cools down. The plot, while interesting and nicely paced, is all over the place. For a first book, it's a pretty good offering. I'll be keeping my eye open for more from this author.
