"My name is Aaron Walsh, and I am a psychopath. Not many people know that about me, but they are about to find out."

One bad day is about to spiral out of control. It all begins with a woman and a dangerous obsession.

Morbid Thoughts Michael McGovern Books

Aaron is a jerk with a nihilistic outlook on everything in life. Nothing has meaning and he hates living but, as he puts it,is "too chicken shit" to kill himself.

However, he does aspire to have sex with a woman, the way a true "alpha male" has sex, claiming it and a woman's submission as his natural entitlement. When, in the course of his job, he meets a beautiful woman and gets access to her laptop, the results are horrifying.

Like American Psycho, this book has a stream of dark humor, and is not for readers wasn't to avoid lurid, graphic violence, or who want likeable characters. It also runs the risk of appearing to condone or normalize nihilism and misogyny by giving voice to them. However, while American Psycho is a satirical warning about a dog-eat-dog culture that glorifies dominance and consumption, Morbid Thoughts is more an uncomfortable musing about the nature of misogyny and violence in a time of line gunmen who, unable to accept a world that doesn't deliver the female attention and sexual activity that they see as their right, engage in death and destruction.

Perhaps the book's weakness is the sense that the author hasn't fully processed his thoughts. He seems poised to make a point but never quite reached it. However, this is still an interesting and well-written exploration of a scary topic.

Morbid Thoughts Michael McGovern Books Reviews

I don't know if I can say I enjoyed this book, but I definitely felt what the author wanted me to feel!
This book was not a dark, interesting look at a deranged psychopath. It was simply a ridiculous, juvenile attempt to be shocking and it failed miserably. What a dumb book.
What filth. Every other word was filth.
This was an awesome book. At first I assume sure I wanted to go on because I hated the main character but I couldn't seem to put the damn book down! I read the whole thing in record time.
This book is very disturbing, in a good way. A self entitled spoiled idiot who can't get a girl rationalizes to himself that he really should just get her. After he kills some other people. I thought the authors afterward was very telling as to what made him write this. Makes me wonder what he thought about the Santa Barbara idiot who girls didn't like.
Morbid and disturbing indeed, sprinkled with some dark humor. The main character is loathsome in every respect. Blame the Mother? Blame the Father? This tale of insanity will leave you wanting to wash your hands, if you can finish it. Foul language, foul thoughts and foul deeds in abundance. But I suspect that shock was the authors intent all along.
Got this book through First and let it sit on my kindle for a while. Started reading it on a flight and had to finish it the same day. Great story telling and despite having to read some of it while also covering my eyes and trying to avoid it, it’s a really interesting deep dive into the psyche of a person who most authors would be afraid to write about.
